I am a native of Morton and I am pleased to return to the Central Illinois area and to join Davies-McGrath Law Office, P.C. I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration with high honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2005. I then obtained my law degree from Michigan State University College of Law in 2008 where I was a member of the Michigan State Law Review. Following law school I practiced for over eight years in Chicago. During that time I gained a wide breadth of legal experience including representing financial institutions in commercial litigation matters, working in-house as a staff attorney for a Chicago-based real estate company, and working in a firm serving the hospitality industry where I focused primarily on transactional work. I share the Davies-McGrath mission to provide clients with a legal advocate who can translate the law into plain English and I strive to make the legal process as clear and efficient as possible for our clients.
I was born and raised in Galva, Illinois and attended Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois where I graduated with honors in 2006, majoring in Political Science and Business Administration. While at Augustana, I was also a member of the varsity football and track and field teams, and garnered All-American honors in the latter. I then attended law school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where I was selected as a member of the Wisconsin Law Review, where I served as Articles Editor from 2007 through 2009. After graduation, I immediately took and passed the Illinois Bar Exam and joined the law firm of Barash & Everett, LLC in Galesburg, Illinois where I practiced for over 7 years. I developed a knack for estate planning and administration and business organization and transactions, and I look forward to using those skills here at Davies-McGrath. I know at times the law can be challenging and confusing and I pride myself on providing legal advice to my clients that is both highly skilled and easy to understand.
I began my path towards becoming a lawyer at Purdue University, where I studied sales and marketing. My time at Purdue provided me with a head start on becoming a good lawyer, particularly stressing the importance of excellent client service. After attending Purdue, I continued my studies at the Southern Illinois University School of Law in Carbondale. Beyond the ordinary class work , I was also able to learn the law through volunteering at the SIU Legal Clinic. At the SIU Legal Clinic, I represented the needy elderly residents of Southern Illinois on a wide variety of legal problems on a pro bono basis. While at SIU, I was the recipient of many awards, including the Academic Excellence Award for each year of law school. the Lincoln’s Inn Honorary Award, the Howard B. Eisenberg Client Service Award, and was admitted to the Phi Kappa Phi honor society. I also won nearly a dozen CALI awards, which are given out for earning the highest grade in a course. I graduated from SIU School of Law in May 2009 at the top of my class and was chosen by my classmates to deliver the commencement address. After completing my studies at SIU and taking the bar exam, I immediately returned to central Illinois to join the family firm. I share my Dad’s mission to provide clients with a legal advocate who can translate the law into plain English.
Since 2012, I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with clients of Tom Davies, including the Village of Morton. I was honored in 2015 when Tom selected me as his choice to succeed him in the practice of law. I appreciate having the opportunity to succeed Tom, and to strive to build on his legacy of excellent client service and zealous legal advocacy in Morton and the surrounding communities of Central Illinois.
I live in Mackinaw with my wife, Kelly, and my daughter Sadie, my son Evan and my daughter Willow.
